Bombing Halts ordered for the immediate halt of bombing in North Vietnam on December 24, 1965. During these bombing halts the U.S. engaged in major peace efforts with the North Vietnamese leaders. This massive peace offensive was focused on finding a diplomatic settlement to the war and ending it promptly. However the North Vietnamese do not recipricate with any of the offers made by the United States and after thirty seven days of debating over peace settlements President Johnson annouces that the bombing will resume, and resume they do indeed.
